Fantasy RPG Queen's Domain is frequently likened by certain other websites to From Software's King's Field games and The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind, so I'm going to put my nose in the air and forcibly compare it to something else. Looks like, errrrrr, a first-person Ico with Mayan architectural influences, maybe a touch of Final Fantasy's Ivalice period here and there. It's set on an island with shorelines you could compare to Halo's Silent Cartographer level, if you rubbed your eyes with breakfast cereal. Have I thoroughly confused you? Don't worry, here is a trailer.

This is the last empty weekend before I go on holiday for a frankly indulgent three weeks. As such, it will likely be spent either remembering all the things my partner and I've not organised for the time we're away or racing to clear through the pile of things I've already remembered I've not organised for the holiday. Whatever the case, it shall not be restful.

Where am I going? Let's just say, I hope to return with some new pairs of glasses and a pair of trainers. If that doesn't give it away, I don't know what will.*

Extremely good King's Field-style RPG Queen's Domain – or is it a Metroid Prime homage? Or a stealth Morrowind-up? We hacks simply cannot decide – has received its first proper patch, adding a hitherto "missing" throwing weapon, the Grave Knife, alongside a bunch of quality-of-life fixes.

They've stirred in the ability to disable screenshake, alongside some new icons to make status effects more obvious. They've also introduced "options to make some late game puzzles less frustrating", though they don't specify which. How frustrating! Still, it's a tidy overhaul for a game that has rapidly become one of my 2026 favourites.

FromSoftware's elderly King's Field games aren't really celebrated for their feeling of agility. They are glorious first-person trudgefests, a treacle-thick waltz of swinging and spellcraft, with players wobbling in and out of attack range like British men who aren't sure whether the other man wants a hug. Unlike in the later Dark Souls action-RPGs, to which King's Field owes some of its retrospective popularity, there's no dodge-roll to grease the wheels.

Out this week on Steam, Queen's Domain is often as ponderous as King's Field, but it's also an exercise in steady, triumphant acceleration. Ultimately, it wants you to fly. To this end, it equips you - well, once you've boshed a huge skeleton sentinel - with a fancy windblade that lets you perform an aerial dash, speeding your manouevres while allowing you to reach new areas.
