In Dreadline Express, you play a character who awakes in the cabin of a carriage on the last human train. It hurtles down the track, bathed in the red light of an alien sky. At the windows of the carriage, eldritch tentacles press themselves against the glass. A voice crackles at the speaker, it announces that you've been selected by lottery. You're to be sacrificed for the greater good. The message signs off "All hail the Supreme Engineer".

It's an ominous beginning, but the best is still to come: Dreadline Express has a mechanic that quickly made it my favourite thing I played at Gamescom.

Edwin came up the ladder to my office last week to remind me that my quarterly Maw Safety Certification was up for renewal. Without an in date health and safety and wild eldritch creature control license, I'm not allowed to remain in the Treehouse and we have to shut down the site. So, today I'm down in the Maw's chamber coaxing it to hock up some globules of games.

Edwin's here, of course, though he seems pretty smug to be on the other side of the plexiglass for a change. I wouldn't mind if he weren't also inciting the Maw with lurid hand gestures.

Saturday's are for having your mind read. Or, at least, this Saturday is because I'm seeing Derren Brown's new show. I'm a little self-conscious about it, not because I'm worried the mentalist will hypnotise me and make me profess a false love for consoles over PC games but because my partner and her family have never seen me at a magic (or magic adjacent show).

Reader, I am an awful audience member for conjurors, illusionists, and psychics.

After months of umming ahhing over paint colours, covering our living room wall in little swatches of testers, we've finally ~~got exasperated with the entire process~~ selected Cherry Caramel. I would be clearing out the living room to start painting today, but, honestly, after the surprise DIY of an exploded sink yesterday, maybe what's called for is some gaming.

Nothing to do with either piping, water levels, or interior design. Sorry, Pipemania, Bioshock, and House Flipper.

Enough about my exploded sink, though, he's what everyone else is up to this weekend.
