Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced will be a "solo adventure and character-driven experience" and very much "not an RPG", Ubisoft have reportedly stated in a leaked presentation that also gives away a release date – July 9th, 2026.

It's not much to chew on, but it suggests that the Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag remake won't be embracing the elaborate equipment management, regional recommended levels, and other Final Fantasy-ass paraphernalia foisted on the series by Assassin's Creed Origins and its successors. To put it in nautical language, they are setting course away from the Shoals of Progression, straight down Ezio's Run into One Hit Backstabber's Bay.

Mayhaps ye have heard the legend of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, the remake Ubisoft havefinally revealed today, April 23rd, after years of reported and leaked whispers. Ahead of this Black Flag remake's arrival on July 9th, its required PC specs have slipped into port.

Yep, after years of messages in bottles washing ashore in the form of reports claiming Ubisoft are remaking Assassin’s Creed Black Flag, it’s finally coming on July 9th. I've seen the newly dubbed Black Flag Resynced and all the tweaks Ubisoft have made to the very good pirate game which also features some assassinating.

A few things have stuck out to me. Most notably, what I didn't see.

Remakes are very much in vogue these days, providing developers the opportunity to return to an old favourite and enhance, expand, and correct the wrongs of the past. Some of the best, such as Mafia: Definitive Edition, redraw the edges of an old story, elevating and embellishing what was there in ways that seem so natural you can forget where the original began and the remake ends.
